Free-writing is one of the writing practices I most often find myself recommending to students, and though no practice is right for everyone, I think many writers don’t realise how versatile it is: how many different aspects of your work it can help with. So this posts starts with explaining what the process actually is and why it’s useful, and then tackles the practicalities and different ways you might use it, and ends with the many other aspects of writing that are so much easier when you’ve learnt to access free-writing mode at will.
